I have been wanting to know why the highlight of similarity had caused some form of attraction previously. I am glad to know it is not because I was easily attracted and there are valid explanations. I read this article which gave me a lot of insight into why we tend to like people who seem similar to us. It was interesting to find out that for romantic couples in long-term relationships, it is the perceived similarity that plays a bigger part in maintaining the feelings of liking each other. It makes me wonder if we manipulate our own minds to think in that manner. Then again, it is true that despite me and my husband being so dissimilar in many ways, we do have a lot in common when it comes to morals, beliefs, faith, hobbies, food etc. Spending more time with him made me realize that our characters made us very distinct from each other but there is so much that brings us together.
I started to understand the reason he often advises me not to disclose so much of my likes and dislikes to just anyone it is because he is afraid I could be manipulated easily. I figured this is also one of the non-technical skills that subordinates was supposed to learn to get into their superior's good books. Then again faking similarities would only back fire I think because it will be tiresome to keep up an "act". I guess if most of us knows human psychology well there is no doubt we could always use it to our own advantage and that is manipulation in its highest level.
Anyway, I think there are a lot of things in this world that I used to feel were magical or "one in a million" have now turned to be just mere coincidence. Just like how someone is bound to win the lottery they would probably think it is an unlikely chance and couldn't believe it but theoretically, someone will have to win and so a lot of things are explained by probability. There is only high probability or low probability and we should not try to take coincidence too seriously. Take the following two images as an example, both have the same "name" and both had the same amount of win rates and number of games played. The difference is that although both are of the same level, they are of different league ranks and different countries and of course have a lot of other differences.
I have just finished reading "The Rosie Project" by Graeme Simsion and I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a good laugh yet enjoy a storybook with interesting content and a mind-blowing ending. I could never guess who was the father in the "father project" (A project started by the main character Don to help Rosie find her biological father). Should I say it was a coincidence to have found this book in the free books corner or was it just meant to be? The lesson I gained from the book was that love overcomes differences and having correct information and knowledge could avoid a lot of unnecessary pain.
It is such a warm night tonight, I wish it could rain heavily for a change.
